About 100 pairs of shoes and socks were donated to the boys and girls of Oak Grove's Independent Living Program, Thrive, on behalf of 1LoveIE. The donation was made during Thrive's Young Adult Holiday Party on December 18, held at the La Sierra University Gymnasium.
Oak Grove is a nonprofit educational and residential center which serves about 200 children and young adults. Thrive is a special program of the institution that pairs participants with a "Life Coach" and involves them in interactive workshops.
During the holiday party which was themed a "Winter Wonderland," Thrive members filled the gymnasium close to capacity and were treated to food, music, games and prizes.
The event started at 6 p.m. and many stayed until the end at 9 p.m., picking up their gift packages on the way out. The shoes came courtesy of our partners A Foundation For Kids while the socks were 1LoveIE's own.
Several 1LoveIE representatives also spent some time speaking to the young adults directly, giving them tips on life and their progression to college.
Many of the Thrive members had smiles on their faces as they received an early Christmas gift that may have otherwise not have come.
